We have some folks that are looking to purchase a home for the first time, which is wonderful. I absolutely encourage homeownership, especially for young people. This is one of the biggest endeavors that you are going to experience.
When you are preparing to buy a home, take a look at your finances. Know what you can afford. It’s a good idea to talk to more than one lender to see what they can offer you.
You should also talk to a real estate professional. Allow that real estate professional to assist you and guide you to lenders who can offer you special programs for first-time homebuyers. There are a lot of opportunities out there for first-time homebuyers. If you ask and bring that to their attention, they will be able to point you in the right direction.
When you are pre-qualified and prepared to start looking for a home, I like to sit down and meet with you to talk about some of the things you are looking for. It goes so much further than the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. We will talk about your lifestyle. Do you want to get involved in any renovations? Are you interested in an acreage? What will your commute to work be like? Do you want to be downtown?
Once we’ve met and talked about some of your wants and needs, I like to spend a couple of hours going out and looking at properties in different areas.
This is so important. Make sure that you express your likes and dislikes to me. If you walk into a room and it absolutely speaks to you, let me know. If you drive into an area that doesn’t fit what you are looking for, let me know. Express what is working and not working.
That is just a brief preview of what to expect when you start the home buying process. If you have any other questions about buying your first home, just give me a call or send me an email. I would be happy to help you!
